Checklist for your Fishing Trip

Checklist for your Fishing Trip

Fishing is a simple sport, but there is actually a lot to remember before you head out on the water. Between having the right tools and protecting yourself from the elements, it’s easy to forget an essential item.

Take a look at this simple checklist and you’ll have everything you need for a fun, comfortable, rewarding day on the water:

First Aid Kit

Whether you are going out by yourself or heading out with a group, make sure you have a first aid kit with band-aids, bandages, ointment, and other essentials. You never know when a hook, fish spine, rock, or any other unforeseen object could cause an injury, so always be prepared.

Sunblock

If you’re heading out on a sunny day, don’t forget the sunblock. Make sure you carry broad-spectrum, water resistant sunblock that is at least SPF 30. You may want to keep a small bottle in your tackle box for easy access since you’ll need to reapply several times while you’re out.

Sunglasses

When you’re out on the water, the sun will hit you from all angles, and constant exposure to sunlight can cause problems with your eyes. During these sunny days, protect your long-term vision by wearing high-quality sunglasses.

Bug Repellant

Nothing is worse than spending hours preparing for a fishing trip, only to be swarmed by bugs the second you arrive at the water. Do yourself a favor and keep a bottle of bug repellant in your boat or tackle box, ensuring mosquitoes and gnats never ruin a good day of fishing.

Needle-Nose Pliers

Most of the time, you should be able to remove hooks from a fish’s mouth fairly easily. However, when a hook gets stuck deep in the fish’s mouth, you may need a pair of needle-nose pliers to remove it properly. These not only make removing the hook easier, they help you release the fish in full health.

Water

You can build up quite a thirst during a full day of fishing, so do yourself a favor and pack plenty of water. Dehydration can come rapidly, especially on hot, sunny days, so make sure you have enough to last from start to finish.

Nail Clippers

Nail clippers are mandatory in a tackle box. These handy clippers will help you cut line and change hooks and lures quicker, so make sure you have them ready at all times.

Fishing Mask

It can be easy to overlook sun protection for your face, so always take a fishing mask with you on sunny days. Huk has some light-weight, comfortable fishing masks that are perfect for anglers who want to spend hours on the water.

You might think that a long-sleeve fishing shirt would be too hot for a sunny day, but with Huk’s cooling fabrics, you’ll be able to remain comfortable, even on the hottest summer days. With SPF protection and anti-microbial materials, Huk has the perfect fishing shirt for your needs.
