Huk fishing shirts are some of the most advanced apparel you can find. These shirts offer excellent comfort, flexibility for casting, and protection from the harmful sun.
With all of these tremendous qualities, it’s no surprise that our shirts are chosen by some of the most successful anglers in competitive fishing, including a certain angler that many people consider the greatest of all time.
Kevin VanDam began fishing around his home town of Kalamazoo, Michigan. In the lakes and rivers of Michigan, Kevin VanDam became experienced chasing a wide variety of fish, including trout, walleye, muskie, and salmon. Bass, however, became his lifelong passion and shaped his career.
He began competing in fishing tournaments around the age of 14, and soon started dominating the local circuits. It was only a matter of time until the entire fishing industry knew the name Kevin VanDam.
Kevin VanDam burst onto the fishing scene in the early 90’s, becoming the youngest person to win Angler of the Year honors. At the age of 23, he was a phenom; on his way to becoming one of the most successful professional fisherman of all time.
He would continue to make waves in professional fishing, winning numerous Angler of the Year awards and finally winning the Bassmaster Classic in 2001. He would win the Classic again in 2005 and back-to-back in 2010 and 2011. Since the Bassmaster Classic started in 1971, he and fisherman Rick Clunn are the only anglers who have won the tournament four times.
Out of 271 different tournament appearances, he has 20 1st-place finishes and has finished in the top 10 a whopping 102 times. As a professional fisherman, he has caught over 10,000 lbs of bass!
No matter which stat you look at, it’s clear that Kevin VanDam knows his fishing, which is why he chooses Huk fishing apparel.
There’s no doubt that Kevin VanDam is a successful angler, and one of the main aspects of his success is the commitment to details. He understands the importance of properly organizing his boat and tackle boxes, of studying patters to find the most successful lures, and making as many quality casts as you can in a short amount of time. With such a mind for details, it’s no wonder that he chooses Huk gear to keep him comfortable and flexible while fishing.
With all of his time spent on the water, Kevin VanDam understands the importance of responsible fishing and conservation. For example, he has recorded public service announcements on the importance of proper disposal for plastic lures. He has a strong connection with the water, fish, and the great outdoors. He is a great example of an active, responsible outdoorsman, and because of this more than anything else, we are proud to have Kevin VanDam wearing our fishing shirts.
You can wear the same fishing apparel that is chosen by successful professional anglers. You may not be able to get paid for catching fish, but you can still sport the performance apparel that is chosen by the best.
Kyle Alsop and Taylor Bivins of Kansas State University are the winners of the 2016 Carhartt Bassmaster College Series National Championship, thanks to a series of consistent weights. They finished the tournament on Kentucky's Green River Lake with 36 pounds, 4 ounces.
The Kansas State team was the only one in the field of 89 teams to bring in more than 10 pounds every day.
You often hear the phrase there is nothing more important than a friend but like many other clichés of life especially at today’s pace, many of these old time sayings are said without really understanding their meaning. As I look back at the past five decades of my life spent in blue water and at my hunting career which has taken me all over the globe, I lift both hands in front of me and start counting off the friends which I could call at any time day or night for help; those who would put their life in jeopardy to save mine, or for that matter those who I can count on in the absolute worst of situations.
America (and much of the globe) seems to have an obsession with billfish, but few species are as popular as the Atlantic blue marlin. Not that there is anything wrong with black marlin, sailfish, swordfish, or striped marlin; it’s just that the blue marlin, which is the largest of the billfish group, has captured the hearts and passions of anglers for centuries.
If you want to join the ranks of anglers who’ve pulled up a blue marlin, you have your work cut out for you. But with the right techniques, you can add this world-class trophy to your list.
